ENDING the DEPARTMENT of ED
Trump’s War on the Department of Education: A Fight to Free Our Kids
President Trump signed an executive order this afternoon that he said would “begin eliminating the federal Department of Education once and for all.” The agency cannot be closed without the approval of Congress, but the order instructs the Sec. of Education to return the power over education to the states. It is expected that some functions, including those related to student loans and special education funding, may continue to be run out of the DoE, at least in the near future.
Trump’s executive order to dismantle the Dep. of Ed (“ED”) is a dream come true for many parents in the U.S. And let me say, I’m all for it.
Trump did not sugarcoat it: ED is a bloated, corrupt mess, drowning our schools in liberal sludge and D.C. wokeness. Trump wants it gone—giving power back to the states and parents where it’s always belonged. He’s been pounding this drum forever, and now he’s got the juice to make it happen.
WASTE OF MONEY & EFFORT
The feds dumped $238 billion into education in 2024—pocket change next to the $857 billion states and locals already front. Why keep the ED alive, sucking our tax dollars dry?
How we got here: Rewind to 1979. One of the worst presidents of all-time, Democrat Jimmy Carter, caved to the National Education Association’s union goons, birthing ED into a beast to “ensure equal access.” Fair enough back then—help poor kids, fund special ed, level the field, etc. But it’s been a disaster since.
By the ‘80s, it was meddling in curriculums; drowning kids in tests that were useless. By 2010, it started shoving critical race theory and gender ideology down our throats. It blew $4.35 billion on Obama’s Race to the Top, a flop that didn’t move the needle on test scores, nor did it better educate our kids.
ED is a woke factory.
Look at 2022: the ED’s own Inspector General caught $112 million in grant funds vanishing—poof, no accountability. Or 2023: they twisted Title IX, strong-arming schools to let boys into girls’ sports or lose cash. That’s not equality—it’s corruption. ED lost its way, and we’ve been stuck with the bill.
Our kids have paid the real price—they’re getting dumber.
We spend $16,000 per student, more than any country, yet the 2022 PISA rankings are brutal: 13th in reading, 18th in science, 38th in math out of 79 nations. South Korea spends half that and crushes us; Finland’s kids ace tests with no federal overlords.
The ED’s $79 billion budget—part of that $238 billion—delivers nothing. States cover 90% of K-12, but feds waste our money on garbage like the 2021 “1619 Project” push, turning history into a blame game, or 2021’s race-based discipline rules that let troublemakers off if they fit the “right” demographic (see the deadly Parkland shooting for and example). Kids dead, kids unable to read or write, and billions of dollars down the drain. Thanks to ED, our kids can’t keep up—proof this agency’s a bust.
Trump’s got it right!
We’re better off without ED. States like Florida and Texas prove they can run leaner, smarter schools without D.C.’s boot. But make no mistake, with Congress or without, Trump will not end ED without legal pushback. Liberal judges—those sanctimonious robe-wearers—will fight him tooth and nail. They’ll cry “civil rights” or “disparate impact,” hauling Trump into court. Look at 2020: they stonewalled Trump’s Sec. of ED Betsy DeVos’s fund shifts over legal nitpicks. So get ready for a brawl — with 4,400 employees and union muscle, the ED’s got allies in blue states ready to sue.
The Left will scream Trump’s order will create “chaos!”— they’ll say schools will crumble, poor kids are screwed — they’ll go hungry, etc. and so on. It’s total BS. The Left cries the same song about everything, and yet none of the warnings ever materialize. When you hear the progressives cry of the “dangers” surrounding Trump’s order to kill ED, just think of Al Gore accepting his OSCAR and warning that your body would melt into liquid due to Global Warming — it was inevitable by 2010 — and yet you’re still in one piece. The liberal hacks who cry tonight, tomorrow, and next month are the same knuckleheads who said Trump would lead us into WWIII, and claimed he would cause a stock market crash bigger than the Great Depression.
You will hear a ton about Title I
This is a federal program under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) of 1965, designed to provide financial assistance to schools with high percentages of students from low-income families. Its goal was to ensure these students receive an equitable education and meet academic standards. Administered by ED, it allocates funds to school districts based on poverty metrics like census data or free/reduced lunch eligibility. Schools ARE SUPPOSED to use the money for things like extra teachers, tutoring, or supplies, targeting kids who need the most help.
There are two main types: Targeted Assistance, which focuses aid on specific struggling students, and Schoolwide Programs, where schools with at least 40% low-income enrollment can use funds for all students to boost overall performance. Clearly it ain’t working — there are entire poverty-ridden school districts in South Chicago where not one kid in the entire class is reading proficient.
Title I is supposed to be a cornerstone of federal education policy, tied to accountability measures like annual testing to track progress. It’s nothing but at leash— ensuring that schools comply with federal rules or loose the cash.
FACT: The states already fund 90% of K-12; they’ll handle all factors of Title I and special ed funds without blinking. No collapse will happen —just freedom.
Dump ED, and empower states to cut the crap —Trump wants states like Idaho to get back to teaching, and skipping the Critical Race Theory nonsense. He wants to allow teachers to focus on reading, writing, math—stuff that works. I’d love to see this go the extra mile — if we start to deport illegal alien families with no right to be here, we’d save our schools the loads of taxpayer money that is spent on educating non-English speaking migrant children. These kids drain a school’s resources, both human and financial, thus, leaving American students with very little.
Trump wants parents take the wheel. Parents want the education system to improve — it’s a driving issue with voters — they want control, but they can’t take that control if ED is dictating the classroom from D.C. Cases in point: Look at Virginia’s 2021 rebellion over curriculums, flipping the state from blue to red. Look at Florida’s 2022 parental rights law—proof states thrive without D.C.’s meddling.
Goodbye ED!
This is Trump draining the swamp for real—torching a corrupt relic that’s bled us dry and dumbed down our kids. States have the cash, the guts, and the know-how. Hand them the reins, and watch our schools soar. Thanks for cutting the cord, Mr. President. Our kids deserve it.
